sqlload hangs on SCO UNIX V7

I am having problems importing a database from a flat ascii file using sqlload. The flat file is about 28000 records by 115 characters per line. The database is initialized for 5 MB and each record is about 135 characters. If I try a 2000 record chunk it completes with no problem.
Any ideas?
