- Null values are never included in indexes (unique or otherwise)
- If your using Oracle7, what about creating a view with a hint to the cost based optimiser in the select statement. The syntax is "/* index desc <index-name>*/" or something similar (sorry I'm at an Ingres site now, so I can't try it out)
