Oracles license agreement precludes us from commiting to their database product for long term use.

The sentence of the license agreement that is precludes us from commiting long term to using Oracle is:

Customer may not relicense the Programs or use the Programs for third-party training, commercial time-sharing, rental or service bureau use;

The company that I work for does not want to preclude the possiblity of starting service bureau for processing other companies data.

I was told by Oracle that the company that we were processing the data for would have to buy an Oracle license.

I was told by Oracle that they would not change the wording.

I was told by Oracle that I should consider that, their last word.

I find all of the above hard to believe. Has anyone gotten a waiver from Oracle for service bureau use? If so, who did you talk to at Oracle?

BTW, I talked to Sybase and they said a service bureau license for Sybase is available, they just cost slightly more.

For those of you who are interested, the full paragraph is:

Oracle grants to Customer a nonexclusive license to use the Programs Customer obtains under this Agreement, as follows: to use the Programs solely for Customer's own internal data processing operation on the Designated System or on a backup system if the Designated System is inoperative, up to any applicable maximum number of designated Users or other such limitation (if any). Customer may not relicense the Programs or use the Programs for third-party training, commercial time-sharing, rental or service bureau use;

Opinions expressed are my own.
