SEF/UniForum Open Systems SIG (Formerly SEF Unix SIG) MULTIMEDIA AND DATABASE CONVERGENCE -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Database vendors are rushing to store pictures, video, and sound, as well as traditional textual data, and to position for roles in the upcoming video serving industry.
For Sybase, its Gain division now delivers Gain Momentum 3.0, a multimedia authoring system that interoperates with existing applications and SQL databases. It is developing an overall Gain Intermedia architecture that will house Momentum; Gain Interplay, aimed at PCs and TV set-top boxes; and an Intermedia Server for video and multimedia.
Scott Kitayama, Sybase/Gain Group Product Manager, will describe the history of Gain Technology, a Palo Alto company that was acquired by Sybase in 1992, and will describe the Intermedia architecture and its component products. Expect to learn lots about the interplay of multimedia and databases.
Place: Digital Equipment Corporation 130 Lytton Street, Palo Alto CA (Corner of Alma, 1 block N. of University)
Date & Time: Tuesday, September 13, 1994, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
