Problems installing Oracle on Solaris 2.3

Hi all,
my boss is trying to install Oracle 7.x on Solaris 2.3 and is running into all sorts of problems, does anybody know if the Solaris development environment is requried? (Before you say RTFM, the wrong manual was given to us (for SunOS instead) and we are waiting for the Solaris 2.X one to arrive, unfortunately we are under deadline.)
