This has been in the news for over two weeks. Oracle bought 7.7% of Gupta, then unloaded about 5.4% or so. It was announced that they were in negotiations about possible alliances, mergers, etc.

Primary reason for Oracle to buy Gupta would be to gain market share at the low end/desktop market.
