We had a similar problem with Oracle 7.0.16 running under SCO UNIX. According to Oracle tech support ORA-03113 is a common catchall error. It basically means that communications were lost for an unexpected reason. Oracle suggested making the listener executable (tnslnr SQL*Net v2.0) root owned and chmod to 751.
