I/O "ramdisks" are volatile and shouldn't be used for transaction logs. They also take memory away from other user processes and require more CPU cycles than I/O to external disks. But IMHO, if you've got extra memory and lots of spare CPU cycles, they're something to look into. Robert at DES.
