Forms 4.0 Installation problems...`

I'm having some problems installing Forms40 (Motif version) on Sun. The basic problem is that when I try to create a new form (via f40desm) I get a core dump. I'm using Motif v1.2.3, RDBMS v 7.0.16.4, Solaris 2.3.
And now for a few questions...
Oracle tells me there is a bug in Forms40 (#189971) that I need a patch for.
I've applied the patch and still have the same problem.
Is anybody out there experiencing the same thing?
Oracle says I may need to back off to Motif v1.2... any thoughts here? (I dont have v1.2 in-house, so that's a problem.)
