Would anyone please advise on migrating from Oracle rdbms version 6 to 7, especially under UNIX ?

I'm migrating two systems right now from 6 to 7.0.16.4 on a UNIX box.

I don't know if anything would ever make me want to try the Migration Utility; it looks a little chancy to me.

Constraints are a pain. The syntax and other changes kind of mean you are going to end up rewriting all your constraints to the 7 syntax.

We also have some very nasty stuff that someone that used to be here thought was clever programming; they were going in and directly modifying, dropping, creating tables under the SYS user. (!!) All that stuff has to be redone; there's no way I'm letting THAT sort of code loose in our new database.

The last step after getting tables and associated objects over into 7 will be recompiling all Pro*C programs, and then testing everything to ensure it still works okay; the old 6 instances will be shut down after we run parallel for a few weeks. Received on Fri Jun 10 1994 - 20:02:01 CEST
