SQL*NET V2 and V1

Has anyone had experience in using sqlnet between Oracle V7 and Oracle V6? The environment is on SUN and one machine runs 7.0.15 and the other runs 6.0.33. We want Oracle V6 users to access a database [via sqlnet] on the V7 system. I believe that when V7 was installed, that they used V2 of sqlnet, not version 1. TCP/IP is the network protocol.
My only experience with this combo was last year with an early version of sqlnet on Oracle V7. Then, sqlnet V2 was a mess and we could only get the connection with TCP/IP V1 installed.
