I'm doing research on database performance and would appreciate your comments, thoughts, and opinions. Your help is greatly appreciated! Please respond by email to bmiller_at_ceram.com or turboman_at_csn.com I'll post a summary of responses for everyone's benefit.

If you are basing you answers on a specific database, type of application, OS, or HW platform; please describe it.

What hardware parameters have the greatest impact on performance?

	processor speed
	number of processors
memory capacity (or database cache size)
	disk latency
	disk transfer rate
	number of disk channels
	number of disks (or heads)
	network latency
	network through-put
	other (please describe)

What hardware platforms provide the best database performance? Why?

Which database(s) provide the best performance? Why?

What database set-up or tuning parameters have the greatest impact on performance?

What operating system set-up or tuning parameters have the greatest impact on performance?

What types of operations or applications pose the largest performance problems?

Is performance a big issue for your organization?

How much would you guess poor database performance cost your organization last year?

How much will your organization spend to improve database performance in the next year?

	How much for hardware?
	How much for software?
How much for services or consultants?

Any other comments, opinions, advice etc. on database performance is welcome and appreciated.
