Raw partitions will improve the speed of DISK ACCESSES. Before going to raw partitions (and the associated headaches they can cause), consider the following...
- Are your performance problems being caused by physical io? If not, going raw won't buy you much.
- Are there things you can do first to reduce physical io (ie. eliminate fragmentation, optimize SQL) that will make performance acceptable?
But if you really are gonna be doing a lot of disk accessing, raw partitions can help significantly.
