Howdy,

we have problems with the installation oracle v7 on a hp 9000 workstation. It's not the first time we execute an installation in this environment, so we are very surprised about the problem. I should told you that the OS-installation is done through HP, means workstation is pre-installed.

Now the description of the problem. We work with sqlnet V1 (tcp) and if we login into the database using sqlplus on the machine with user oracle it's allright, no problem. But if we try it through the net with a normal databaseuser  we've got the following error-code:
07318, 00000, "smsget: open error when opening sgadef.dbf file."

I check the permissions on this file which is located in $ORACLE_HOME/rds and can't find any difference between the installation on the other machines and this machine. We set for testing permissions on sgadef-file to 0777 and get now the following error-code:
07320, 00000, "smsget: shmat error when trying to attach sga."

Under inspection the system-calls it looks like a problem in the shared-memory segments. Is this an error during installation of database, OS, or what else ?? Can we solve the problem through setting the kernel-parameters??

Thanks in advance, Timo.
