We evaluated a number of report writers running in client-server mode and settled on Impromptu from Cognos. It is stable, fairly powerful, and easy to use. The main advantage of this product over other report writer's is it's ability to create catalogues (in essence, PCbased  views) of database software that can be distributed to users so that they don't have to do complex joins.

If you are looking for a product with support across many platforms, the IQ software is also very good and came in a close second in our evaluation. Received on Thu Apr 28 1994 - 03:42:58 CEST
