Oracle startup problem

I am using oracle ver. 7.0.12 on a sun platform running solaris 2.2. After installing the oracle on the system i can bring up an instance without any problems , but if I shutdown the machine or if I run oracle shutdown and try to restart oracle I always get the following error:

ora-00205: error in identifying control file '/xx/xx/xx/xx.ctl'

ora-09782 sfifi: another instance has the same database mounted. Attempting to shutdown instance.
ORACLE instance shutdown.                                                            

I have checked the /var/opt/oracle/oratab file, I also used the sql dba utility to shutdown the instance , but I still get the same error every time I try to restart oracle. The only way I can get rid of this problem is if I reload oracle again.

Any suggestions !
