Just a few points to note.

  1. The Microsoft ODBC driver shipping with access supports Oracle v6 and was written by PageAhead.
  2. The Oracle ODBC driver supplied by Oracle supports Oracle7 and was written by (surprise, surprise) PageAhead.

This driver is supplied FREE of cost but support for it costs extra.

3) Glue doen not have ODBC drivers. Glue does not need ODBC drivers. Glue surpasses ODBC by huge margins.

4) IMO it is really ridiculous to compare Glue with ODBC if you are programming Windows apps to talk to Oracle. ODBC appears to be a major kludge when compared to the slick Glue interface. Any serious developer would gladly spend more cash to get an interface which would pay for itself many times over in increased productivity, maintainability and performance. Do you know how much cash it takes to hire a programmer to write an app?

And in terms of performance, have you ever seen what ODBC does when you do some simple queries. Take a look - you may be surprised.

Like in most things - you get what you pay for with ODBC.

5) I dont know what TI is like but Oracle is really a fine company to work for. If it seems like an asylum then so be it but its the best darn asylum I've ever seen. And I dont think the professionals around here need to resort to childish comparisons and name calling.

Hope this clears the confusion

shiraz
may be surprised.
