Big mistake on my part. I deleted a tablespace disk file before dropping the tablespace from within oracle. At least that is what I think is the problem. First the ora_* processes started to die off, and when they were all gone, I tried to issue a startup. I got:

  ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [1175], [], [], [], [], []
ORA-01116: error in opening database file '/home/oracle/7data/blah.dbs'
ORA-07360: sfifi: stat error, unable to obtain information about file.
IBM AIX RISC System/6000 Error: 2: No such file or directory

Because the file is not there. I copied another small tablespace disk file into that file name and got:

  ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [1175], [], [], [], [], []
ORA-01116: error in opening database file '/home/oracle/7data/blah.dbs'
ORA-07367: sfifi: logical block size mismatch.

Rats. Any ideas will be helpful. I am not really a dba, but since nobody else is, I am 'it'.

Thanks for any help.
