INFORMATION PROCESSING STANDARDS QUESTIONNAIRE      The following questionnaire has been developed as part of an ongoing research project on Information Technology Standards at the University of Pittsburgh. The goal of the research is to identify the characteristics of standards development processes that contribute to effective generation of quality standards.

     If you have actively participated in an information standards process, we welcome your response to the survey. If you have experience with multiple standards, we would welcome multiple responses, but would ask that on each survey all responses be made in relation to one development process. Please answer the questions as they appear and do not alter the question statements or choices. A section for additional comments is at the end of the survey.

     Please complete and e-mail your completed survey to mbsclass_at_lis.pitt.edu as soon as possible, but not after April 7, 1994. All individual responses to the survey will be kept confidential and will be used by researchers exclusively for compiling and analyzing summary statistics. After the data has been analyzed, summarized findings will be available to you via Internet.

     In accord with University of Pittsburgh and Federal guidlines
related to the conduct of reserch involving human subjects, we need to be clear that your participation in this study is voluntary. If you choose to return this survey it is an indication of your consent to be a part of the study described below and to publication of the data obtained from the study for scientific purposes.

     This study is being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Michael B.Spring, Department of Information Science, University of Pittsburgh, Room 705 LIS, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. The purpose of this study is to identify steps in the standard development process and characteristics human behavior that designate an effective standards development process.

     There is neither a cost nor a payment involved in this reseach project. Any information about you obtained from answers to questionnaires will be kept strictly confidential and your identity will not be revealed in any description or publication of this research. (Upon receipt of the returned questionaire, your name will be stripped from the mail note and discarded.)

     Any questions you have about this research will be answered by Dr. Spring who may be reached at 412-624-9429, or via email at spring_at_lis.pitt.edu.  

A copy of the results of the study may be obtained by sending an email request to spring_at_lis.pitt.edu. Any questions you have about your rights as a research subject will be answered by the Office of Senior Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences at 412-647-8475.
