Records Buffered characteristic

I have a query being performed in a block that seems slow to me.
(It takes a couple seconds to display 17 rows of data from one table).
I tried to change the Records Buffered default setting to 100, but this
made no difference.
I have all of the appropriate indexes, so does anyone know of any other
form settings that I could fiddle with?
