Why, oh why must it be this way?

Why is it that Oracle views every minor verson release as an opportunity to redo the structure of their libraries?

Example:

HPUX, Oracle V 7.0.12 Pro*C linking:

-lsql -lsqlnet -lora -lnetwork -lcore -lm

HPUX, Oracle V 7.0.15 Pro*C linking:

-lsql -lsqlnet -lcore -lnlsrtl -lora -limp -lcv6 -lsqlnet -lnetwork -lnetv2 -lnlsrtl -lcore -lm

For the same source code !!!

And this only after three hours of "nm -r *.a | grep <some symbole> | grep -v CODE" to find the _at_#!#@! things followed by trying every combination and permutation in the link statement.
