Subject: Parallel Server on AIX ?

Dan:
I've worked with the Parallel Server version of Oracle on VMS and single instance Oracle on the RS/6000 quite a bit. Couple things you ought to know about "clustered" RS/6000's.
1. The shared disks are only raw devices. 2. A customer I spent a bit of time configuring this year decided,

against my strong recommendation to use raw devices for their    database instaed of journalled file systems. This customer then had    some annoying problems with AIX writing to a portion of the raw    devices that Oracle was also writing to. I guess what I am recommending is that if you are going to use the Parallel Server you what you getting into. On a friendly, mature environment like VMS it was a handful. On the RS/6000 it could by like tap dancing in a mine field.
Good luck!

It has been said that a DBA is a professional paranoid.
                    Just because you're paranoid,
doesn't mean that they're not out to get you.
