This is an informal survey. Of you who are ORACLE DBAs on UNIXbased  Oracle versions, I'm curious as to how many have root/superuser privileges and how many do not. This is the first project where I've had DBA responsibility without also being involved in UNIX administration, and I'm finding life difficult administering group to fiddle with some permission bits or run a root.sh from an install, on a regular basis.

I suppose administering a fully mature environment with finished, production-level applications would be a different story, but I'm finding this situation tedious.

Comment / suggestions?
