Well here's some reasons to use a TP Monitor.
- You don't always use a database in your transaction. Not everything is done in a database.
- You want Data Independance. In the Oracle world today a client must connect to a database. With a TP monitor this is no longer the case. A transaction is sent via the TP monitor to a service provider.
- Database idenpendance. If you use an XA interface and a TP Monitor you should be able to code your applications independantly of whatever database you decide to use.
In an OLTP application a TP Monitor can offer a lot. In a DSS application the advantages of using a TP Monitor are not as great, as you say, in a DSS application you deal more with ad-hoc inquries.
