When you create 'OPS$' accounts, your users do not have to login your applications when they are already logged in e.g. Unix. In Oracle version 6, you simply create a user called e.g. OPS$JEROEN . When you now login with '/' instead of username/password you're in the database as user OPS$JEROEN. (if in Unix you were user 'jeroen').

In Oracle7 this is fine-tuned a little bit, so you can choose another OPS$ prefix.
