!! THIS ONE IS VERY STRANGE !! System: HP 9000/847 running HPUX 9.0 ( with many patches ;-) ) Version: 7.0.12

We have a database running in a production environment that is giving us fits. The database will run fine for two to three weeks and then we start getting ORA-3113 error messages returned to a process *running on the same machine as the database* when it tries to do a particular update statement. This seems strange because the process should not be using SQL*Net at all! The TWO_TASK env. var. *is not* set for this process, only ORACLE_SID.

If you run the offending SQL update statement thru SQL*Plus, it gives the same message. Also, *any* following SQL causes SQL*Plus to report that you are not logged in anymore. If you reduce the length of the SQL statement, the statement will work but you still are logged out.

Once this condition is reached, the *only* cure is to export and then import the database. This kills us because it is a 7x24 application.

Oracle support is stumped. We have sent them reams of Oracle trace files to no avail.

*Any* ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
