Why not just use the UTD ?
I messed about with VT100, VT220 and Sun keyboard mappings
for a while until I discovered the Universal Terminal Definition.
This works on all keyboards and terminals provided they can
recognise vt100 style cursor positioning codes.
Now, whether I'm at the console, dialing in from home or on an X-Windows terminal, I can use the same keyboard mapping.
They are a bit strange but you get used to them quickly.
For example:
VT100 VT220 UTD ----- ----- ----- Accept/Commit PF3 Do ^X A Exit PF4 PF4 ^X E Execute Query , F12 ^X 4etc.
