Help - dual table & synonyms in V7

Having a bit of bother with the dual table :-(.

This may well be easy, but our DBA is away today, no-one in the office can help & the Oracle Response Centre has not yet called back.

I'm having problems selecting from the dual table from within forms, but the same select works OK from within Plus.

Statement is :- SELECT <seq>.nextval

                INTO   <variable>
                FROM   sys.dual;

Also when I select FROM dual ( no owner name ) within plus I get ORA-980 : " synonym translation is no longer valid". Oerr offers no cause or action advice for this. I have dropped & recreated the public synonym for dual, and granted select to public, but still this problem persists.

Any ideas ?? Please reply by email.
