Well they do repeat many times in the manual that editing the *.inp file is un-supported.

You mean like the Oracle consultants I've worked with? They were pretty quick to go at a *.inp file with and editor.
Since Forms 2, I've always used what I felt was most appropriate to what I was trying to do. That means the forms designer when that gives me what I want and an editor if it doesnt. If Oracle came up with a Forms designer that allowed me to do global search and replace, then I would start to think about not editing the inp file. Until then, I'll continue with an editor.
