Oracle on MVS

I am interested in people's experiences of using Oracle on an IBM mainframe (please - no flame wars over whether IBM mainframes are a good thing - I'm stuck with the damn thing, so I have to work on that basis :-( ).

We have a big IBM box, running MVS, and a SNA network throughout the company with a variety of terminals hung off it (mostly either 3270 dumb terminals, or PCs set up with 3270 emulation software). Most of our database work is done using ADABAS, but for various reasons we are now looking at the possibilities of using Oracle for some of our work (specifically, to make personnel information available to business users).

Does anybody have any experience of a setup like this that they would be willing to share? I am particularly interested in aspects such as performance (are the overheads of a SNA network so large as to make response times for a client server setup unusable?) and availability of tools (I gather that there are virtually no Oracle tools which run on MVS - the only one I have heard of is SQL*QMX - most of the rest would require a PC in client/server mode at the very least, which I hear is VERY slow indeed - see above).

It would be very useful if anybody could give me a feel of the sorts of problems and issues we are likely to encounter. I am very new to this sort of area, and at the moment I feel like I am really groping round in the dark!

Thanks in advance for any responses. If at all possible, could people respond by E-mail to the address below (or at least mail a copy of any postings to me). I do not normally subscribe to this group, and although I will try to keep a look out for any responses, I may miss some.

Obviously, if there is interest, I will post a summary of any responses I get.
