IMHO, Foxpro and any other xBase derivative is a mere toy compared with  ORACLE (or Sybase or Ingres or Informix for that matter).

  Here's a quick chart:

                          Oracle Foxpro
                         ------------- ------------

Number of platforms
supported: 100's 3 or 4

On Line Back up: Yes No

Integrated data
dictionary: Yes No

Redo/Undo logs Yes No

Automated recovery: Yes No

High Throughput
OLTP: Yes ?????

Many Distributed
Options/Features: Yes No

                         And the list goes on . . . .

If I were doing anything other than a single user stand alone database (like a rolodex or something), I'd probably choose Oracle. There are many applications for which FoxPro and other xBase programs do quite well in. I would think, however, the Navy would not be interested in such trivial systems.

Just my $0.02
