Ultrix and SQL HELP

This is for a friend who writes his diploma and has no way to post to the newsgroup. Help would be great. Thanks

Problem:
a) We have to access a SQL Database by a C-Programm. b) We have a DECstation 5000/200 running Ultrix 4.2 and a C-Compiler.  

Questions:
1. What do I need in general to do a)
2. Ultrix 4.2 has included a kind of SQL runtime system (Ultrix SQL).

   What is Ultrix SQL (it semms to be based on Ingres 6.2 / 6.3).    What can I do with Ultrix SQL (what is in there) ?    What additional products do I need to do a) with Ultrix SQL ?    ( precompiler ?? )
