How records are stored in Oracle ?

Hi everyone:
I am trying to find out how records are stored in Oracle.
- How LONG datatype is stored ?
- If the update operation changes the current size of the record, how will the record be stored. i.e. record's size is larger than the original size, will it delete the original record and append the updated record in the next available slot in the extent ?
Any help would be appreciated.
