Transaction Monitors

Working on a project that is designed around the ability to hit both Oracle and Sybase, as well as others, using either the Microsoft ODBC API or Pioneer's Q+E API. The deliverable that we will create is a client/server software package, with a selected RDBMS on the backend, and a client GUI application on the front end.

My question is, in this environment, how do we enable transaction monitoring? On the client side, we have the ability to delineate transactions, and on the server side we have the ability to track, but I don't believe there is enough function provided by either API or by the underlying RDBMS's to do the following:

  • Provide "progress reports" on the state of the transaction or the percentage complete
  • Provide transaction queueing
  • provide centralized transaction management
  • Provide selective transaction rollback

I believe that products such as Encina begin to deliver on these requests, but I want to write to a more common API - not the proprietary API's provided strictly by the folks at Transarc.

Any suggestions on products that would provide us with this type of capability?

Thanks in advance...
