Depends on what you think a database is, I guess. Oracle never felt the pinch from dBase, and all of the latest PC databases still ignore the important (and expensive) issues. Oracle might one day start to feel the pinch from Borland-Interbase, but to achieve that Borland would have to put their support-levels and prices up to Oracle type levels. If you wish to use Access, PDW et al as databases, rather than file managers, then you need to use them as front-ends to something like Oracle or Sybase anyway.

Oracle never were the only game around (in most environments), just the noisiest, and they were (and are) in more games than anyone else.
