The main reasons for using Net2 are:

1 Multi-treaded servers. You cannot talk to a MTS using Net1.

2 Automatic protocol conversion over a heterogeneous network.

3 Character set conversion between client and server.

Be warned though. Net2 is still beta, and our experiences show that there a still a number of FEATURES. I am running 7.0.12 under SunOS 4.1.3 and I cannot get Net2 to work with the dedicated server. Our HP900 also had a problem, solved by setting one of the listener parameters to a non-zero value. Our Oracle support has also stated that Net2 may never be production with V6. Try your Oracle Support centre for the manuals.
