SQL*NET V1 vs V2

I've just installed ORACLE7 on a Sparc 10, SunOS 4.1.3 with the ditributed option.

What is the difference between SQL*NET V1 and SQL*NET V2?

V1 looks familiar to the ORACLE6 SQL*NET we had, using TCP/IP communication. I installed V1 but I'm curious about V2. The documentation didn't help much either, I didn't get a SQL*NET V1 or V2 manual with the set I got. Should I get one or the other or both?

Are there any implications to distributed database access as to which SQL*NET should be used.
