The basic problem is an insufficient key definition as supplied by Oracle. Which key mapping are you using (vtxx? pc? etc.). You need to have separate key definitions for the Del and Backspace keys, if you are using, say, a pc to access Oracle over a network with PC/TCP using a vt220 emulation. A real pain in the behind, I think that should be part of the default definitions.
