Our department has used Ingres for application development for the past six years or so, and has generally been happy with the performance of Ingres and the results we've obtained.

As part of our long-term planning efforts, however, we would like to re-evaluate Ingres against the other "players" in the database software market to see how Ingres stacks up, and/or if there are other products available that may better fit our needs. Specifically, one of our long-term goals is to achieve as "achievable" as level of software independence as can be obtained today - hopefully, to free ourselves from any one database vendor and the lack of flexibility that exists when you are locked into one vendor's product.

We are interested in contacting any group that has recently attempted this kind of endeavor, or being able to view the results of a group's software evaluation process that has led to the purchase of Ingres or any other database product. It is difficult to gather well-rounded information about the database market, since the market is so large and there are so many companies with products to offer, and whatever help we might receive that would help us to avoid "reinventing the wheel" would be greatly appreciated.

You may contact me either through my e-mail address, my telephone (412) 268-2864 or my mailing address:
