Hello all, I hope this isn't an FAQ, I have been evaluating (on trial) oracle (os2 - unix - dos) for construction of a network - available lab-testing dbms for our R&D labs. Our MIS shop has asked that we look at ingres (we have a very big ask/manman system which _might_ someday becom a manman/x - ingres implementation). My requirements are as follows, in order of importance:

end-user access (engineers, technicians) to dbms over net at the application level (we like Pioneer's Q&E tool)

cross - network NOS function, Oracle _seems_ capable of working between tcp/ip, IPX/SPX, and netbios environments.

good 3rd party support

in the long term: good s/w development tools, We are starting without forms and 4gl, but will probably want these next year.

also, how well do these two systems exchange data today? Prospects for the future?

thanks, forrest
