Job Openings for Software Engineers at KSR in Boston Area

Kendall Square Research is looking for two software engineers to join a small team in adapting, enhancing, and tuning third-party DBMSs and other commercial software for the KSR parallel machine. The split between the two positions depends on the strengths of individual candidates. Initial assignments include:
- Port ORACLE7 and other commercial software

  • Design/develop parallel data loader and sort packages
  • Design/develop administration tools for large databases
  • Support customer benchmarks

Skills: Knowledge of state-of-the-art relational DBMS internals is essential, in a UNIX/C environment. Experience with ORACLE is a significant plus. Helpful additional areas: database administration tools, parallel algorithms, sort packages, software porting, transaction processing systems, CASE tool internals, or database application development tools. MS degree in Computer Science preferred, or equivalent experience.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of successful design and implementation of large-scale commercial products in a database-oriented environment, with 4+ years of experience. S/he should be a creative software designer, a strong hands-on implementor, a team player able to work independently as well, and a good communicator. S/he should welcome challenge and complexity in a very focused and professional environment.

Kendall Square Research is also looking for a software engineer to work with a small team to analyze, tune, and benchmark the performance of third-party DBMSs and other commercial software for the KSR parallel machine. The initial assignment is TPC benchmarking of ORACLE7.

Skills: Strong performance tuning background in the database/OLTP area is essential, as is knowledge of state-of-the-art relational DBMS internals, in a UNIX/C environment. Specific experience with ORACLE or TPC benchmarks is a significant plus. Helpful additional areas include software porting, parallel algorithms, application development tools, TP monitors, queueing theory, statistics, operational analysis, or object-oriented DBMS. MS degree in Computer Science preferred, or equivalent experience.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of successful performance tuning/benchmarking of large-scale commercial products in a database-oriented environment, with 4+ years experience. S/he should be a hands-on implementor, a team player able to work independently as well, and a good communicator. S/he should welcome challenge and complexity in a very focused and professional environment.
