oracle vs ingres?

Hi. I am advising our business office re upgrading to a new system, either VMS or Unix-based, and one of their requirements is a good general database program. DEC offers several programs, but having heard also of Oracle and Ingres I am wondering what major features these may or may not offer relative to each other and to DEC db's?

Is there a big difference in speed between Oracle and Ingres? For some reason there appears to be a big difference in the price...

I have sent for vendor info, but any advice would be welcome, as this is an unfamiliar area for me.
