IMHO SQL*Net is a reliable product. We are currently using it to share data between 7 different database servers. SQL*Net permits us to move/retrieve data with relative ease. If you are going to use Oracle in a distributed environment, SQL*Net is the only option that I am aware of. (Unless you want to export to a file, FTP the file to the other system, and import the data; but this is a less than optimal solution.:-)) There are some limitations to remote updates if you will be using Oracle V6.0, but V7.0 fully supports remote updates (according to the info that I have read). Remote updates are possible with 6.0, but, the solution is somewhat of a kludge that we devised.
