How do you back up your database?

I have recently taken over administration of an HP 9000 system that has a large ORACLE database (a couple of gigabytes).
I am interesting in finding out what other users running UNIX platforms do for backing up databases of this size. Currently we do FULL backups every night to DAT tapes. This is rather time consuming. Even though I can rest assured that data can be cleanly recovered if needed, I would like to see what incremental methods can be used to back up.
I will post a compiled list of replies.
