Oracle 7

I have heard that Oracle 7 is a coorperative client-server (?) DBMS, and that sharing of data among heterogeneous database is not a problem. Is it true? If possible, I would like a brief description of how Oracle 7 archieve this sharing. Does it use RPC? What about migrating the entire database to another machine?
