sqlplus installation aborted

We have installed ORACLE on a SUN 4/470 (SunOS Release 4.1.1). The RDBMS (V.6.30.3.1) is working correctly and with SQL*DBA we have no problems.
But the installation of sqlplus aborted. The script plus.install in the directory $ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/install has a command line:

     sqlplus $SILENT $SYSTEM_PASS<<! >> $LOG 2>&1
     grant connect,resource.....

At this point the installation aborted without ORACLE-Error-messages, but with the System-Error:

$ORACLE_HOME/sqlplus/install/plus.install: 2956 Bad system call - core dumped

Has anyone a solution ?
