report pdf file size

Hello,
we generate very big reports with >6000 pages. When oracle reports generates a PDF it puts the background into every page. According to the pdf specifications it would be possible to put the background image or text only once in a pdf file and link it to every page.
Is there a way to tell reports to do this ?
