JDeveloper: Crosstabs BI Beans without OLAP

Hello all,
I am looking for an alternative in applying BI Beans for Crosstabs based on a plain, non-OLAP relational database. The Oracle Site refers only to graphic implementations. Crosstabs without OLAP seem to require some extra coding as far as data definition and drill and pivot operations are concerned.
Does anybody have experience on that? I would also appreciate to see some code.
