oracle 9 no lib32

/opt/oracle/product/9.2.0/precomp/demo/proc/demo_proc32.mk
I changed my makefile appropriately and it would not compile as could not find $ORACLE_HOME/lib32 just a directory $ORACLE_HOME/lib. Is this an installation problem or am I being stupid !! Ta
