How can CICS read Oracle? (Options)

Our company wants to replace DB2 with Oracle as the back end for CICS.

Currently we have Oracle DBs on Unix (Sun). The new configuration would add CICS on MVS as clients to the current client list (PC, Unix).

Does anyone use the Access Manager? What can you tell me beyond the marketing hype?

Is there a way to avoid the cost of the Access Manager and still get to the database from CICS?
